Residential and Office
Clarges Mayfair was designed by Squire & Partners Architects who took in consideration the rhythm and scale of traditional buildings and created its own identity through contemporary details and craftsmanship. The Clarges Mayfair is a natural stone project for both interior and exterior, that combines contemporary style with the historic surroundings of the area.
Located on Piccadilly, overlooking Green Park and the Buckingham Palace, close to the Ritz and Bond Street. The scheme includes luxury private residences, offices, and apartments. Clarges Mayfair is a new development by British Land, and has a 24-hour concierge, a spa with a 25m swimming pool, treatment rooms, gym, and a private screening room.
For the exterior façade of the building, the architects chose Portland limestone, to blend with the surrounding buildings. This stone is very similar to the Portuguese limestone Moleanos in terms of color and hardness. They usually have the same applications.
For this project, two limestones were chosen: Semi-Rijo and Cabeca Veada.
The Portuguese Natural limestone Semi-Rijo, provided by LSI Stone, was chosen for the interior application. The majestic lobby is coated with LSI’s finest limestone, a beige color and medium brown grain are the ideal combination to complement the luxurious interior design. Due to its characteristics, this stone is suitable for interior cladding, and interior flooring.
Cabeca Veada is a limestone from central Portugal in the beautiful National Natural Park of Serra de Aire and Candeeiros. Its light beige/ white homogeneous colour, with fine to medium brown grains are similar in appearance to Moleanos limestone, so it is a very strong alternative. This limestone has a medium hardness making it appropriate for projects like this one, for interior cladding with special stonework.
The curved architecture of the lobby creates an outstanding design and perfect mix of styles, that also contrast with dark and light materials.
The finish used was honed, with a smooth surface but with less reflection and shine. This finish is applied to natural stone with specific machinery, to give the stone a sophisticated and matte look. For this project, the honed finish is appropriate so that the extension of natural stone looks smoothly and neutral.
